Abstract

In today’s globally competitive corporate environment, effective employee motivation is essential for the success of any organisation. The classic perspective of management was essentially analytical and rational, while emotions of employees and managers were not considered. However, it is crucial for organizations to recognize that employee motivation goes beyond conventional systems of monetary and other rewards. Satisfactory degree of employee motivation can be achieved by including social and emotional intelligence. Socially and emotionally intelligent leaders have skills to help them respond to individual needs of their employees. Also, they allow their organisations to offer an environment that motivates and develops employees. The subject of this paper is the implications of emotional intelligence, with an emphasis on skills that enable organisations to create an environment that increases employee motivation.
