Abstract

Cryptocurrencies, thanks to the oldest among them – bitcoin, attract attention of citizens around the world, due to big jumps of their prices. Many famous economists question the economic value of cryptocurrencies and warn that they should be banned. What distinguishes cryptocurrencies is that they are based on blockchain technology and represent an integral part of the open chains of data blocks. In fact, instead of bank maintaining accounts of all citizens and keeping account information, and when gets a payment order, sends this information to the bank account of another participant in the payment system, blockchain allows that information about of the balance of user's account, as well as previous transactions, is in his e-wallet as well as thousands of other computers across the network in the form of block chains. No one maintains this system centrally and charges commissions for participant, but all those who maintain the entire system with their memory space and processors are awarded with compensation for mining. This creates an economic incentive to participate in this financial experiment. There is no regulation of trade with cryptocurrencies and their taxation and due to insufficient knowledge about cryptocurrencies, many are still skeptical about business with cryptocurrencies. Crypto-skepticism is also supported by the resistance of many recognized economists. Nothing is different when it comes to the banks that will have to reduce their business, bearing in mind that they take provisions for maintenance and transactions, while this is not the case with the account holder with the cryptocurrencies.
