Abstract

Transition as a phenomenon which radically but gradually changes everything achieved up to date, represents the process of transition from the existing to the desired, or possible real state of the economy and the society. The economic content of the process makes a transition from non-market, centrally planned, administrative to a market economy, and it implies the corresponding change, especially democratization in economic, social and political terms. Entering the Republic of Serbia in the transition process, its Travel agencies are faced with serious problems of global nature. The subject of this paper is business operationsof Serbian travel agencies in order to highlight the main determinants of their operations and the effective implementation into the global environment. Therefore, the meaning and the complexity of the global environment and the transition process are actually reflected in the opportunities, difficulties and risks of establishing an efficient market economy and tourism market.
