THE ROLE OF MANAGEMENT IN THE ENERGY EFFICIENCE OF THE HOTEL ECONOMY

Abstract

Tourism, and especially the hotel industry, after the devastating consequences left by the global crisis on business and income, caused by the pandemic, expects a new crisis and new uncertainty in business. Energy instability is growing into a general energy supply crisis that will have negative consequences for almost all industries, complementary to the hotel industry. In this context, the importance and role of operational management in hotels in the direction of rational use of energy is increasing. The management of the hotel, in terms of managing the rational use of energy, will be on a big test. The paper pays special attention to the use of energy in buildings using the example of the hotel "Square Nine" Belgrade. The segments with the highest energy consumption in this hotel. In hotels, energy efficiency can be brought to a higher level in segments where it is expressed, but not in relation to the reduction in the quality of hotel products and services. It is important to maintain guest satisfaction at the required level. The paper outlines ways to improve energy efficiency in hotels, and the authors emphasize the following possibilities: (1) reducing the amount of fresh air; (2) reducing air flow; (3) temperature reduction in certain areas; (4) reduction of consumption (reduction of transmission losses), (5) reduction of consumption and uncertainty from conventional fossil fuels (alternative energy sources), (6) reduction of cooling (better control, weather programs, connection to other automated systems); (7) servicing and maintenance; (8) creating a "green" commitment, the task of managers in general energy shortages is to improve the rationalization of consumption and find more alternative sources. At the same time, the hotel offer should be constantly enriched and kept at a high level.
